Stacy, seriously. WTF?
So, this post by Richard Nikoley got me thinking back when I saw it in March. It made such good sense! But I never did anything about it. I just sat by as I let pounds creep back on. I wrote a book – testing recipes had me start down a slippery slope of eating when I wasn’t hungry. Then I had the stress of publishing said book, that made me lose sleep and increase cortisol and stress. Then Wesley weaned, and I lost all the bonus calories he’d been burning for me, but my appetite didn’t change. Then I went on the cruise and ate and drank like an idiot. I came home to a...

If you haven’t yet heard, Wednesdays are our Guest Blogger Series day! It’s a day where Matt and I get a bit of a mid-week break while getting to share with you some of our favorite online bloggers. And for their hard work, they get the benefit of your readership – we encourage you to please show all of them your support by visiting their blog and social media links. This week you get to read our friend Amelia from the Amelia’s Healthy Life. We met her when she started attending our meetups and she has become a very good friend of ours. Like many women, I discovered the Paleo...
Read MoreStacy, the Face of Paleo in Woman’s World Magazine
Years ago, when we began blogging, we used to do these weekly round-ups of news articles linking to anything Paleo related in the news. It was a lot of work to keep track of, so when we discovered that Angelo’s awesome Podcast (Latest In Paleo) was doing it for us, we happily gave up the weekly news posting. However, this “news” is a little different. It’s not JUST any Paleo article in the media. It’s STACY IN THE MEDIA. A few months ago we were contacted by Woman’s World magazine to do an interview with them about Stacy’s story. She was hesitant,...
Read MoreGuest Blog: How Paleo REDUCED Cholesterol in 30 Days
Over on our Facebook page, what started as a short status update about Stacy’s love for bacon turned into a big surprise. One of our followers, Jacqueline Ritz, told us in brief how the paleo diet drastically lowered her husband’s cholesterol and helped her depression in ONE short month. Jackie was generous enough to write down her story for us to post on the blog. Our hope is that you can share this story to the people in your life (or maybe help you) to appreciate that dietary cholesterol is a minimal impact to the numbers on a blood test – inflammation is key! My...
Read MoreSeven Posts
You may remember a while back when we were featured on the gluten-free blog And Love it Too! No? Go check it out… We were honored she tagged us in a meme about Seven Posts from our blog, which asks us to identify the best of the below categories from 2011. We thought it seemed like a good idea, since we’ve seen a lot of new faces on the site lately. We hope to connect you with some of our old favorite posts. Also, if paleo is about looking at diet from an evolutionary perspective, it’s fitting that we take part in memes, which is an evolving idea that grows and changes over...
Read More2012 21 Day Sugar Detox: Week 1
We’ve mentioned before that we are doing a 21 Day Sugar Detox, for many reasons. First, we totally over did it for the holidays – too many paleo(ish) treats and carbs in general aided in us putting on a few pounds. Second, we’ve got a 10 year vow renewal coming up – it’s a big deal since we never had a wedding. We’d both like to look and feel our best for the event! Lack of sugar helps us sleep better, helps our skin be clear and removes bloating quickly and effectively. I’ve done detoxes before (like, for my birthday). So I knew what to expect and...
Read MoreGuest Post: Summer’s Series – Part I
I was introduced to Summer through Tara from The Foodie and The Family, who pointed me to the Banana Hammocks & Tutus’s Facebook page. I was instantly charmed by Summer’s candor and openness. Her blog is fun to follow and her kids are adorable. The fact that she was doing before & after pictures, writing about how awesome paleo poop is, and discussing breastfeeding and paleo just drew me in more. I have a soft spot for mommy bloggers losing weight on Paleo, so (like the chatty cathy I am) I reached out. I was surprised to learn Summer knew who I was and even followed our...
Read MoreDeep Thoughts: Taking Care of Me
I feel like I need to author this post under the name Jack Handey. Deep Thoughts, Stacy’s Obligatory Monthly Cathartic Moment… But I want to make a post about Taking Care of Yourself. It’s something I really needed a reminder about. I wasn’t paying attention to the person I’m most responsible for: me. Not work. Not the kids. Not the cats. Not Matt. Not bills, housework, shopping. Not this blog or the book. I can’t do any of those things if I’m not healthy and well, and I needed to refocus on what is truly important in my life. I’m hoping some...
Read MorePaleo IRL: Stacy’s Confession
I’ve gained 3 pounds. The world hasn’t ended. I’m not crying. I’m not panicking. I’m not confused why this is happening to me. I’m not even upset about it. After I hit 198lbs on my birthday, I was able to let go of my scale addiction. The number goal I’d had for a decade had finally been achieved and I knew everything from that point was all about health and well being. I didn’t have an interest in weighing myself daily anymore, it wasn’t a game I was playing. I was finally living In Real Life (IRL) focused on what was in...
Read MoreSugar Addiction Awareness Day and Tropical Traditions Giveaway
Today, October 30th, is Sugar Addiction Awareness Day. As former sugar addicts (see our “before” pictures for proof!) this is certainly a subject that is near to us. Since cutting out all processed foods, grains and refined sugars, we’ve turned our health around completely and we’re pleased to pass that message along. I remember nights where Stacy and I would stagger around the kitchen like the walking dead searching for the sweetest thing we could get our hands on. It’d likely a be pretty embarrassing scene, were there tapes of it. Often we’d end up...
Read MoreStacy’s 10 pound, 11 day Low Carb Paleo Detox Plan
Happy 30th Birthday Stacy! The best present I could have given to myself this year was continued improvement in health and weight loss – and I did just that. As much as weight is just a number on a scale (I’ve had several people tell me just this past week, “you don’t weigh under 200lbs yet? I just don’t believe it!”), weight does represent an improvement in overall health when you’re coming from morbid obesity. When I ended my “Eat for You” challenge a couple of months ago, I hit a low of 202lbs. Now, I did a serious WOD on a long...
Read MoreWhat it feels like to lose 200 pounds
As of last Thursday, we, as a couple, have lost 200 pounds. This number is so staggering to me that I feel the need to put it into context. It’s 30 pounds more than I weigh right now and it’s about as much as Stacy weighs. It’s like a whole other person just walked out our door, never to be seen again. It has seriously changed everything about us. As I’ve said previously, I went from being tiny to being fat pretty quickly and never stayed at a healthy size very long. When I met Stacy in January 2002, I weighed 260 pounds and she probably weighed 290 or more. We may...
