Eat Like a Dinosaur: COOK LIKE A DINOSAUR Giveaway!

This is the week! Sometime this week most of you with pre-orders will receive your very own, brand spanking new copy of Eat Like a Dinosaur! The rest of you will likely start seeing it appear in your local bookstores (TOMORROW!). If you’ve got a copy, please write your review (please!) on BN.com and on Amazon. If you’re still on the fence, feel free to check out all reviews we’ve shared in this post, this post, this post or our Facebook wall.

Thank you so much for supporting this effort. We know it’s an annoying month with all our book chatter – and you all have been more than fantastic. We honestly cannot believe the audience this book is reaching. We know how hard it is to have a family and keep it running smoothly. Even harder is attempting to foist this new way of life on that family. It is our sincere hope that all of you who read our book find it helpful in your journey.

But that’s just sappy stuff. Let’s get to the fun. We like tools. And we’re fortunate enough to have quite a few at our disposal. They make our life in the kitchen SO much easier! It’s for that reason that we include a section of the book about Tools We Find Helpful and why we have this page. Well, we decided to pool our petty cash and buy some lucky reader our favorite tools. Every tool here is highlighted (but not necessary) in Eat Like a Dinosaur recipes!

1.  Cuisinart SmartStick Immersion Hand Blender

I used to think that an immersion blender was just a cute toy to play with. That was until I realized how much of a pain it was to do the blender transfer shuffle! This tool is fantastic for our Bunny Soup, Raspberry Dressing and Nom Nom Paleo did a cooking demo at Paleo f(x) for how to use it for homemade mayo (we have a couple recipes in the book)!

2.  Progressive International Folding Mandoline Slicer

If you need nice, clean, even slices, there is only one tool for the job. I love my mandolin and use it every time I can on jerky and fruit & veggie slices. If you want to make jerky, like we have in the book, it’ll be easier if you have it. Just don’t be stupid – this is NOT a kid friendly tool!

4.  Progressive International Wedge and Pop Apple/Pear Slicer

When we make our Dried Apple Rings, the core needs to be removed. And our Lava Fudge Cupcakes and Apple Pie Cupcakes have a surprise filling, which this apple corer hollows for perfectly! When we make our Applesauce or Apple Tidbits, we like to slice them. This apple slicer makes it quick! Why not make it easy on yourself and get these handy tools?

5.  Wilton Easy Flex Silicone 3-Inch Reusable Baking Cups and

6.  Mini Muffin Silicone Baking Cups


Many times we’ve extolled the virtues of using reusable silicon muffin liners. Paper liners are wasteful and often stick to the coconut and almond flour baked goods. Not using a liner is to subject your pan to the possibility of ruin by intractable stuck food. So, have a set of them on us in both regular for Meatloaf Cupakes, muffins and cupcakes galore or the mini cups for the infamous Mini Nut Butter Cups!

7.  Proctor-Silex Belgian Waffle Baker

Ah! Here starts the best stuff! You’ve heard about our Frozen Waffles? The waffles you make and then store in the freezer for later toasting? Seems a common choice of our reviewers! Well, the recipe requires a waffle iron, doesn’t it? Quite a few of you tell us you threw your old one out when you went paleo – so, here you go!

8.  Cuisinart ICE-21 Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker

If you’re avoiding dairy (like us) you probably miss the creamy, sweet, cold ice cream you used to enjoy – we know we did! So, in Eat Like a Dinosaur we teach you how to make ice cream with coconut milk – Mint Chocolate Chip, Honey Nut and Chocolate Nut Butter Ripple ice creams. Honestly, this might seem like a seldom used appliance, but to avoid the overly sweet and dairy-based versions and indulge in your own homemade once or twice a month is totally worth the investment!

9. Hamilton Beach 10 Cup Food Processor

We hear some of you don’t own a food processor. This is not ideal! It’s our FAVORITE tool in the kitchen. How are you going to make your own Fruit & Nut Bars, Grain-Free Granola or Cinnamon Apple Creamed Hot Cereal without a food processor? This is the (affordable) food processor that we used in the making of the book and it’s been great to us!

10.  Waring DHR30 Professional Dehydrator

Now this is exciting – our most talked about tool! Sure, you could cook something in the oven for a day (we do tell you how in the book) but why not get a tool that will save you time, your household energy and free up your oven! A dehydrator is where it’s at! It might seem like a superfluous and extravagant tool – but we assure you if your family eats jerky or dried fruit like our family, you will pay for this tool in store bought savings in a couple of months. And honestly, there is nothing more tasty and perfectly paleo than a fresh batch of homemade jerky. We have and LOVE this tool – we use it at least twice a week!

11. A signed (by the whole family) copy of Eat Like a Dinosaur

    My family eats mostly whole foods. The concept behind Eat Like A Dinosaur is really truly easy for kids to get. The pages are colorful, there’s an allergin index and the food is not your average boring healthy food. Getting kids excited about nutrition isn’t easy but this book really makes it 1-2-3. Who doesn’t like cookies and waffles?

      And I totally shared this with my friends on FB because the more people know about Paleo (regardless of whether they win a contest or not) the better. I want my friends and family to know their kids can eat Paleo too. Why suffer with ADHD, anger control problems, obesity, diabetes, potential heart disease when making dietary changes can help instead? Why take a pill with side effects when you can enjoy yummy food and be healed?

    I left a review on BOTH B&N and Amazon. ***STACY and MATT*** Bad news! My review on B&N shows only a 4 star rating; however, I left a 5 star rating. When I saw my review posted I thought I must have screwed up and accidentally clicked on 4 stars instead of 5, but when I tried to write a NEW review on B&N (reflecting the 5 stars) I was not allowed. An auto-responder said that I’d already written a review. The screen popped up with my review… With a 5 star rating. (What the heck???!!) 
    Anyway, the point is I don’t think I screwed up… I think that somehow B&N screwed up. I contacted them via an online form to let them know… But I’m so sorry! I really meant to (and did) give it 5 stars. I feel awful that my review is the only one with 4 stars (and I didn’t mean for it to be). 🙁

    I have not bought the book yet, but I’m planing on it. I am more interested in the book because my friend is allergic to everything. (Tea, coffee, sugar, fruits, rice, nuts, tree nuts, dairy and wheat and more than I can remember.)
    I follow Paleo parents on Facebook and LOVE reading their posts.
    I would love to win the giveaway to make it easier for me and my friend to do the Paleo diet. We are both on a single income. I am hoping I can help motivate her since most of her family thinks she is crazy for doing the diet.
    Thanks Paleo parents for writing the book for beginners like myself. 🙂
