2012 Goals and 2011 Accomplishments
I feel like a cliche, but 2011 has been the best year of our lives. We’re feeling and looking the best we ever have, our kids and family are (mostly) healthy and happy, and we’ve had a tremendous number of opportunities for our family. Even tonight, as I pull my hair out during final edits of our book – I can’t help but be incredibly thankful and humbled by the fact that we have a book?! As a recap to the awesome stuff that happened to us this year: We found a way of life that introduced us to health beyond our imagination We found a community of friends and family...

The holidays have been amazing this year. I took a whole week off of work, spent quality time with the family, and mainly managed to avoid computers. Knowing I’d want to fall into the real world abyss for a little while, I asked two of my new favorite paleo mamas to do a New Years Eve post with me. If you don’t know Heather at Multiply Delicious or Jenni at Urban Poser yet, you’ve got to go check them out. Like NOW. Seriously. Go. These ladies offer some amazingly tasting and just as awesome looking stuff on their sites! I made Heather’s Pumpkin Streusel Muffins...
Read MoreDark Chocolate Banana Bites
Another genius recipe from Cole, this one is a sister to our Flourless Fudgy Brownie Bites. When we were discussing making treats for Christmas gifts he suggested those brownies. But it was a Friday night and I was feeling too lazy to melt chocolate. So he and I chatted about what we could use instead, and the result is his creation (with my help). When we came up with these little treats, we were shocked at how good they were. In fact, they became even better the next day – the texture was like velvet. If you like our Flourless Fudgy Brownie Bites or Pumpkin Pucks, we bet...

Have you pre-ordered our book? Are you thinking about it? Are you still trying to figure out what to get people for the holidays? It occurred to us that you might have pre-ordered our book to give someone this holiday season. Or, perhaps you wish you could give it to them as a holiday gift but want something in hand. So, we put our heads together to come up with something you could have more than just an Amazon receipt to give them. The result was the idea to give everyone with a pre-order number a personalized e-mail directly from us about how excited we are to share it with them. And as a...
Read MoreOur First Hanukkah
Last night was the first night our family has ever celebrated Hanukkah. We’re not a religious family, but we celebrate Christmas for the joy, the togetherness and the spirit of giving. It’s a tradition both Matt and I grew up with and the idea of Santa is fun and enchanting. Especially these days; have you seen these videograms and trackers kids can follow? But Cole came home from school last week with a book about Hanukkah. It was a really beautiful story about a family in Israel harvesting their olive trees, using both green and black olives to eat and make oil. It showed an...

Read MoreWe have now been Well Fed
When we started our Paleo journey, the only place I knew to get recipes was the internet. Now, I have a bookshelf that is quickly filling up with fantastic Paleo cookbooks. Despite that, and the fact that we wrote our own, I am in love with Melissa Joulwan’s Well Fed. Matt and I are foodies. He said on our Facebook wall the other day, “we didn’t get fat on accident.” And it’s true. We love to cook. And we love to eat even more. Being Paleo has now given us the opportunity to enjoy foods and lose weight, rather than gain it. As foodies, one of the things Matt and...
Read MoreNews You Can Use
Alrighty, we owe another book reveal post because you fantastic, supportive, and always surprising people have “liked” Eat Like a Dinosaur on Amazon 100 TIMES?! The most common questions we get are usually related to execution in the kitchen. We understand that going Paleo introduces you to weird tools like meat grinders, dehydrators, your own ice cream maker and a host of ingredients you haven’t even heard of before, like arrowroot powder and palm shortening. Do not fear, our new pages are here! Based on the chapter in our book titled The Boring Chapter for Parents,...
Read MoreGuest Post: Summer’s Series – Part I
I was introduced to Summer through Tara from The Foodie and The Family, who pointed me to the Banana Hammocks & Tutus’s Facebook page. I was instantly charmed by Summer’s candor and openness. Her blog is fun to follow and her kids are adorable. The fact that she was doing before & after pictures, writing about how awesome paleo poop is, and discussing breastfeeding and paleo just drew me in more. I have a soft spot for mommy bloggers losing weight on Paleo, so (like the chatty cathy I am) I reached out. I was surprised to learn Summer knew who I was and even followed our...
Read MoreDay of Discovery
Over on the Facebook page, Stacy spent the day sharing other bloggers for you to discover. As we realize that not everyone is on Facebook, we figured some of you might appreciate a little recap by me. Day of discovery #1: The Mango Duck. I first discovered Mango Duck when Stacy texted me a link to a recipe and insisted we needed to make it RIGHT AWAY! All of the recipes on the blog we’ve tried are truly fantastic and we give it our highest recommendation. Day of discovery #2: ANTHROfit. Ian is a member of our meetup group (when the 49ers aren’t playing) and we got to meet his...

I don’t think Matt and I can ever say enough, how important having a supportive social circle is to the success of raising your children. It was essential to have when we were the breastfeeding, baby-wearing, cloth diapering, homemade baby food weird hippie new parents and being encouraged to take an easier route by others. And it’s even more important now that our boys are older and able to recognize that many of the things we do are “different.” But we avoid the drama of all that by filling their lives with boisterous spinach-eating kids so they see different can be...
Read More12 Days of Paleo(ish) Sweet Treats
As you get ready to bake, double boil and beautify with ribbons and glitter for the 12 days of Christmas, or whichever holiday your family may choose to celebrate, consider some of our favorite Paleo(ish) treats! Although I wouldn’t call these “healthy” I will say that they offer a lot more nutrition and are less toxic to your liver than what you may have previously made at the holidays. There are lots of fun recipes to make with your kids in the following list, we hope you can make new traditions with some of these. Plus, we figured since a lot of you are new(ish) to...
