Review: The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook

Since we began Paleo Parents, we’ve been increasingly and routinely asked to review books and products by people in and adjacent to the paleo community. At this point, we get so many we are unable to actually do the reviews of the products in a timely manner! That’s why we recruited the Paleo Parents Review Team to fill in the gaps. Look forward to reviews on Tuesdays!

This week we’re posting our review a little early because of the release of Mickey Trescott’s The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook! So often people comment and email and direct message and inbox us questions about resources for autoimmune paleo recipes. We’re so very happy to find a resource that fills that exact niche! If the wait for The Paleo Approach is too long for you, perhaps this might be able to serve in the mean time! Monica from the Paleo Parents Team reviews the new ebook and shares whether it will be helpful for you. Visit Mickey’s blog and her Facebook page as well!

When my husband and I both underwent some preliminary food intolerance testing eggs, nuts, dairy, gluten and grains came back as major offenders. Beyond simply removing these trouble foods from our diet, I needed to reduce our exposure to all foods that might cause flair ups so that we could calm our systems and do some simple elimination diet testing.

I turned to an autoimmune protocol and within a couple of weeks my husband and I looked and felt significantly different.

However, it wasn’t long before we felt exhausted with our predictable AIP food rotations and were craving creativity in the kitchen.

When The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook, by Mickey Trescott, was shared with me I was thrilled and instantly fell in love with the thoroughness regarding not only the AIP lifestyle, but the meal plans and recipes as well.

Stacy had similar feelings:

The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook is the first cookbook I’ve seen dedicated to providing safe foods to those following the autoimmune paleo protocol. But more than that, it’s intoxicatingly pretty. It’s energetic and enticing. I found myself believing exactly the author’s goal – you can still be a foodie and absolutely enjoy the art of cooking while restricting foods to only those nutrient-dense and healing foods outlined. With meal plans, shopping lists and easy to understand explanations – this is a fantastic resource for those working to put their autoimmune disease in remission!

I often recommend my mom friends to AIP resources when their kids show intolerance to nuts and eggs, and I look forward to referring families to this cookbook since it is packed with implementation information.

As for my family, recipes from Trescott’s book will be making frequent appearances on our monthly meal plan!
